Introduced by Lemoine in 1907, name presumed registered in 1953.

Pinkish buds open into very fragrant double lilac flowers.

The cultivar was named after the French republican leader of the second half of 19th century.

Typical of the species it is expected to grow into a largish suckering shrub 3 x 2m.
